At the end of Tress Road, you will see a gate to the entrance of the reservoir. The hike will be lead by PLT Board member John Triana who is also a Board Member of the New Haven Bird Club. No pets, please. For more information, contact Joel Meisel, Ph.D., President PLT at (203) 758-6812.

February is “National Bird - Feeding Month” - Started in January 1994, Illinois 10th District Congressman John Porter read a resolution in the Congressional Record making February National Bird – Feeding Month. This observation was established because wintertime is one of the most difficult periods for birds to survive in the wild. Why Feed The Birds? Feeding the birds provides a much needed break from today’s frantic lifestyle that families lead. It is a hobby that is stress free, inexpensive and can bring the whole family together. It is an excellent teaching tool. Children can assume daily responsibility of cleaning and filling feeders. Identify different species of birds using a field guide. Use information for school projects and reports. Information source: Wild Bird Centers of America, Inc. If you like watching the birds why not check out The New Haven Bird Club www.newhavenbirdclub.org

Make a New Year’s Resolution You Can Keep - “Remember the taste of the season’s first snowflake on your tongue, the perfect white crunch beneath your boots, and the tingly-sting of chilly air against your cheeks? Sadly, today’s kids might not. America’s kids spend four to seven minutes outside per day, barely enough to make a snow angel” and “Did you know that by the time most children go to kindergarten, they have spent more than 5,000 hours in front of a TV -- enough time to earn a college degree?” Pledge to open the door and get outside! “National Wildlife Federation (NWF) is working to ensure all American children reap the mental and physical benefits of outdoor time”.
