PLT's Winter Hike 2013
Most people feel that hiking/walking is only a three-season sport. However winter is a great time to enjoy the trails. The arrival of cold weather is no reason not to enjoy the great outdoors. Join us as we enjoy a leisurely hike at the Linear Park.
Hike date is Sunday, February 10th at 2:00pm. Meet at the entrance to the Linear Park trail on Cornwall Ave., Cheshire, CT. Ample off street parking is available. Dress for the weather, hike can be as long or short as group would like. Liner Park Trail info.
The Liner Park is part of the Farmington Canal Greenway that includes seven towns. The paved trail system is a total of 31 miles and growing. View Photo Gallery
The Canal was originally opened in the spring of 1828 for excursion boats to take passengers as far as Northampton, Massachusetts. Cargo boats also used the canal. The canal never realized any profits and by 1848 railroad tracks were being laid along the old canal route. The rails were used until the 1980’s and when service was discontinued it became part of the Rails to Trails System and once again has become a wonderful place for family excursions.
