PLT Celebrates 19 yrs…
The Emerald Ash Borer
Guest Speaker Dr.
Claire Rutledge who is a research scientist at the Connecticut Agricultural
Experiment Station. Dr. Rutledge
holds a PhD in entomology from the University of Illinois. She has presented
and published widely on current insect threats. Her specialty is wood-boring
insects.
The Emerald Ash Borer
is an exotic wood-boring beetle that kills ash trees. On July 16, a CAES survey
team headed by Dr. Rutledge recovered the first insect specimens in Prospect
from a ground-nesting, native wasp, which hunts beetles including the emerald
ash borer. Learn about the history and biology of the beetle, the threat it
poses to our forests and landscapes, how we track its spread, and what you can
do to help minimize its impact on our ashes.
