Academic Scholarship to graduating high school seniors that live in Prospect!

The Mission of the Prospect Land Trust is to acquire, maintain, and manage property in the Town of Prospect so that wetlands and watercourses, farmlands, woodlands, and other significant lands can be preserved in their present state, thereby protecting them for their scenic, natural, and historical value and for educational and recreational benefits for present and for all future generations.

We are pleased to be able to offer an academic Scholarship(s) in 2019 to graduating high school seniors from Prospect!

Eligibility Requirements: 
1)   Must be a graduating high school senior residing in Prospect, CT. Provide High School Transcript showing a weighted grade point average of 85%
2)   Attending a 2 or 4-year college and accepted into an environmentally-oriented major (such as but not limited to: agriculture, botany, environmental science, etc.). Must provide copy of letter of acceptance 
3)   One letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor or community leader whom you are not related to.
4)   Essay answer to one of 3 topics of your choosing. Essays should be 500-750 words, printed on plain white paper, single sided and double spaced, and should address one of these three topics:

A] an environmental issue in Prospect: Describe an environmental issue that affects a natural resource in Prospect. Propose a solution that would address this issue and/or describe activities in which you have been involved that have worked towards solving this particular problem. 
B] Sustainable living in Prospect and beyond: Discuss ways that you and others of your generation could live more sustainably on Earth. If applicable, include a description of changes you have made in your own life that have enabled you or your family to live more sustainably. 
C] Protection of Prospect’s natural heritage and special places: Describe a place in Prospect you think is especially important to protect, and explain why. Discuss what you have done or propose ways that you could help to protect Prospect's natural heritage.

Application for this Scholarship (including all of the 4 bold face type items listed under “eligibility requirements” ) must be sent in one envelope, postmarked by Monday April 29, 2019.

The recipient will be selected by May 19, 2019 and will be notified by mail. 
Talent Release - Successful candidate further agrees by virtue of applying to this scholarship that the Prospect Land Trust Inc, may promote, share or utilize the candidates’ name, essay, or image in future news articles; emails, the PLT newsletter, or blogs, etc. for means of promoting our efforts to educate and inform our community. 
The recipient can choose to be recognized at his or her school’s awards ceremony.
