The Prospect Land Trust has arranged to have Gail Cameron give
a presentation on Bobcats in Connecticut at the Prospect Firehouse on April 22 at
7:00pm.
The bobcat is
the only wild cat found in Connecticut and
the most common wild cat in North America. The presentation will focus on the
natural history of bobcats in Connecticut. Once considered a threat to agriculture and
game species as well as a high value on its pelts the state had concerns that
the bobcat population could be over harvested. So, in 1972 the bobcat was
reclassified as a protected fur bearer in Connecticut with no hunting or
trapping seasons. This is sure to be a very informative evening one you will
not to miss.
Gail is a graduate from
the College of Agriculture at UCONN and went on to work for more than 44 years
at the Yale Medical School. Now retired, she enjoys having the time to hike,
bird watch, and care for her many pets. A lifelong Hamden resident, Gail grew
up with Sleeping Giant in her backyard. Perhaps that is where her love for
nature began. She is a Master Wildlife Conservationist (MWC) with the
Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Vice
President and Environmental Stewardship Chair of the Sleeping Giant Park
Association (SGPA) and volunteers on multiple projects with Connecticut
Audubon. She is also the President of the Hamden Land Conservation Trust and a member of
Friends of Brooksvale.
The event is free to the public, no registration required
