2nd BioBlitz

2nd BioBlitz --- to be held on College Farms trail on July 11, 2010 at 10:00 am

Come join us on our 2nd BioBlitz as we continue to identify and record all species of living organisms found at College Farms. Our 1st BioBlitz was very successful as we identified 80 species in total – including 16 animals and 64 plants. Fourteen friends and neighbors participated in the discovery of the diversity of life and the importance of open spaces within their community. PLT is having four seasonal BioBlitz’s at College Farms throughout the upcoming year to help increase the public’s awareness of the variety of life in their immediate neighborhood.

The 2nd BioBlitz will take place on July 11 at 10:00am. During this visit we hope to find some of the flowering plants of the summer and identify some of the many insects of the woods. Joining us will be Carol Lemmon, a retired entomologist with the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station http://vvv.caes.state.ct.us and current President of the Connecticut Botanical Society www.ct-botanical-society.org. No special skills are needed to participate. This event is open to all ages. No pets please. Upcoming BioBlitz events will be held in September and December or January. College Farms public access and parking is available at the end of Yale Farms Lane, Prospect. Hope to see you there!
