Prospect Land Trust Continues to Grow!
On May 23, 2012, Prospect Land Trust (PLT) Board of
Directors voted unanimously to accept a 64.8 acre parcel of land that
was generously donated by Boardman W. Kathan. To date, this is the largest
single donation of land acquired by the PLT. What makes this a most momentous
occasion is that the property connects to an existing PLT holding of 17.3
acres (donated by Mr. Kathan on December 29,1998) for a total of 82.1
acres of continuous open space to be known as “Kathan Woods” nature preserve. Once again, Mr. Kathan, a Prospect
resident and member of the PLT Board of Directors, has shown by example his
commitment to open space and the community at large.

Celebrate CT Trails Day June 3rd at 2 -4 pm.
Please join us to celebrate the new property donation, explore
the extended trail system, and honor the memory of Bud Doyle by embracing the
love that he had for the great outdoors.
Frank “Bud” (Farmer) Doyle (October 6, 1920 – April 10,
2010) was an active member of the community and well known in town as a man who
treasured his family and had a love for the written word, a good laugh and the
tranquility he found in nature. Subsequent to his passing, the PLT received
numerous donations to honor Bud’s memory.
Toward that end, it is our pleasure to dedicate opening day of PLT’s new
hiking trail as well as the installation of a memorial bench to be located at
Kathan Woods as an expression of our love and memory of Bud as well as his
passion for nature.
To quote his daughter Marjorie Devaney, “With each passing
season I realize that I’ve been blessed with a like-minded view of nature’s
ability to heal, connect and inspire and it all began with my dad’s example. So
what better way to keep his spirit alive and close than to encourage others to
find the gift of peace and community through their own fresh-air experiences”,
first published in the April 2011 issue of the Prospect Pages.

property, an abandoned early town road, and a 1790 farmhouse.
