Prospect
Land Trust held it’s 7th Trails Day hike on June 4, 2017 at Kathan
Woods. This was also our 3rd time hosting/participating in The CT
State Parks Family Adventure: The Great Park Pursuit. It was a pleasure to
reconnect with our annual hiking friends and exciting to see so many new faces
and hopefully new hiking friends this year! Our group of 22 hikers were
fortunate that the rain held out and that it did not start until after we had
complete our hike along the blue trail loop. The blue trail loop was at one-time
part of the Quinnipiac Trail system that ran through Prospect and can be seen
on a map that was published by The Connecticut Forest and Park Association
dated July 1, 1931. The group traveled up to the Bluff Head (peak with a 535ft
elevation) for its view of the “Rolling Hills of Meriden” and were also delight
to see Pink Lady’s-slippers (Pink Moccasin-flower) along the way. For many this
was their first time seeing this wonderful native wild flower from the orchid
family.
