PROSPECT LAND TRUST'S 2018 TRAILS DAY - 2 DAYS of HIKING FUN!

Prospect Land Trust’s 2018 Trails Day will feature two very different hikes this year.

The 1st is a Family Friendly Hike to be held at Kathan Woods on Saturday, June 2 from 2-4pm. This guided family hike will follow the yellow loop trail that features old stone walls, rocky outcrops and a brook. At a family friendly pace we will explore 2 miles of trail looking for interesting plants, identify trees and much more. Along the way participates will have an opportunity to create their very own pocket Nature Journal. This hike is listed as Moderate meaning there is gently rising/falling terrain with occasional obstacles. It is also listed as part of the Great Park Pursuit. Pre-registration for this event is appreciated but not required. It would be helpful only for planning purposes. No dogs allowed. Wear appropriate footwear and bring water. Rain cancels this event. The 2nd hike, which is also being sponsored by the Regional Water Authority, will be held on Sunday, June 3 from 1-5pm and is very different. It is more challenging and is geared for the more advanced hiker. This vigorous 5- mile walk will bring us along the Quinnipiac Trail from Rt. 42 in Bethany through Regional Water Authority land in Prospect and the Prospect Land Trust’s Kathan Woods preserve. The group will walk a proposed relocated route for the Quinnipiac trail that is not currently accessible. Expect many steep areas with rough terrain. No registration is required. No dogs allowed. Wear appropriate footwear and bring water. We’ll carpool to the start and walk back to Boardman Dr. Rain cancels this event. Leader: John Triana. Contact: 203-401-2749 jtriana1@rwater.com

In a 1949 issue of The Hartford Courant, a writer noted this about the blue-blazed trail system: "Hiking is a great way to see beautiful Connecticut, have fun and get healthful exercise, How can it be done and where can one go? These questions are answered by following the 'Blue Blazes."

Both hikes to meet at the end of Boardman Dr. cul-de-sac which is off Plank Road, Prospect. Plank Road is off Route 68, nearly 1 mile west of the Route 68 and Route 70 junction.  You can also see Google Maps for directions. Street parking is available. Please do not block driveways or mailboxes.
